PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired twice late to seize a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
